Homework Information

At St. Helen's we provide children with homework to assist with their learning. The homework set will be to consolidate what the children have been learning in school.

Each child is provided with a homework book to complete the written tasks in.

Every week, homework tasks will be published on the school website under the following pages:

Year 3

Year 4

Year 5

Year 6

It is our school policy that all children complete assigned homework and hand it to class teachers on the agreed days.

Class teachers will give regular feedback to the children on the homework completed.

We offer lunchtime Homework Club to all children who might need help with homework tasks.

The timetable for homework club is as follows:

Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday
Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 All Year groups

Recommended time to be spent on homework:

Years 3 and 4 - 1 and a half hours a week.

Years 5 and 6 - 30 minutes a day.

Children are encouraged to read every day (outside of the suggested homework time).

We strongly recommend that each child becomes a member of their local public library.

A reading guide booklet is given to the parents of all year 3 children, and can be found below.

For all year groups, homework is distributed on a Friday, and needs to be handed in the following Wednesday.

Mathematics Homework:

We are using Mathletics to support our children’s learning, development and enjoyment of mathematics. Children will be assigned weekly activities by their teachers which will provide them with an opportunity to consolidate their learning. To help support the children every parent has access to a family console which provides a quick way to recognise areas for development and areas of strength. Parents are able to receive a weekly email report regarding their child’s progress. The progress made will be monitored regularly by class teachers and feedback will be given to the children.
