At St. Helen’s Catholic Junior School, we want to encourage our children to become problem solvers who develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world. We believe that high-quality Design and Technology lessons will inspire children to think independently, innovatively and develop creative and technical understanding. Our DT curriculum provides children with opportunities to research, investigate, develop their ideas, make a product and evaluate their work. Our DT curriculum provides our children with a hands on approach to learning that lends itself to other areas of the curriculum such as Mathematics, Science, Computing and Art. While it is essentially a practical subject, Design and Technology should provide opportunities for reflection and pupils should acquire the ability to make informed, critical responses to their own work and that of others. There is great pleasure to be derived from Design and Technology and we aim that through deeper understanding, pupils can gain access to cultural richness and diversity.
