At St. Helen’s, we aspire to physical literacy for all pupils. ‘Physical literacy is the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activity (Whitehead, 2016). We are committed to providing a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum which is both relevant to, and widens the experiences of, all children. Our intent is to create a culture which inspires our children to enjoy Physical Education, engage in healthy lifestyles and achieve to their full potential, now and in the future. We aim to provide a high quality, coherent and progressive curriculum as our foundation, enhanced by opportunities to attend extra-curricular clubs and participate in competitive sport. It is our vision that through Physical Education, every child will benefit holistically in their physical, cognitive, social and emotional wellbeing. ‘PE is Powerful Education’.
